Job Description:

Terrapin Works is seeking a creative Marketing or Graphic Design student who is passionate about designing promotional materials and enhancing our online presence. In this role, you will contribute to the promotion of workshops, events, and the Terrapin Works lab through various media. If you enjoy using design software and creating engaging content, this is the perfect opportunity for you. Experience with Adobe, Canva, photography, and video filming/editing is a plus!

You will begin as a trainee earning $15.50 an hour

Job Duties Include (but are not limited to):

  • Developing and implementing social media strategies to enhance engagement, visibility, and brand awareness across various platforms. 
  • Creating visually compelling flyers and promotional materials for Terrapin Works workshops and events using Adobe Creative Suite and Canva.
  • Supporting the publication and promotion of events on the UMD Terrapin Works website and Terplink, ensuring timely updates and high visibility to target audiences.
  • Assisting with student outreach and engagement at key events, such as on-campus fairs and Maryland Day, to promote Terrapin Works services, recruit employees, and strengthen the community connection. 
  • Attending our TerrapinWorks workshops throughout the semester (typically from 5-7 pm) to capture high-quality images of students in action, to be used for future promotional purposes, social media, and marketing materials. This would be occasionally**

Desired Skills (Not Required):

  • Experience filming time-lapse videos of 3D prints using a DSLR camera
  • Experience with photography and video filming/editing
  • Experience with Adobe Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere Pro, etc.)
  • Public speaking and presentation skills, particularly for engaging with students during tabling events

*Promotion Opportunity*

Once you’ve demonstrated growth and gained the desired skills above, you’ll be promoted to Student Marketing Manager, earning $17 an hour (may take 1 year of being a trainee).

You’ll have the opportunity to work on these desired skills as a trainee, preparing for your promotion to Student Marketing Manager.

Additional Information:

  • Pay rate: $15.50 per hour (will begin as a Trainee)
  • Minimum work hours: 10 hours per week on campus 
  • Duration: June – December 2025 (with the possibility of extension based on performance)

Occasionally throughout the semester, you will be asked to attend our TerrapinWorks workshops to film content using our Sony camera, which we will later use for advertising. These hours will count towards your 10 hours per week.
